For one month is the summer of 2010 with a grant from the The West Harlem Art Fund in partnership with the NYC Department of Parks and The City College of New York I presented the work Closer: In Conversation an interactive public art lettering writing project asking area residents and visitors of St. Nicholas park in Harlem if they would like to contribute letters about the neighborhood's past, present, and future. Five mailboxes with writing stations were situated throughout the park. The work a destination that could be visited by anyone and allowed passersby to freely share their stores and memories of the park during the month of June. Over a hundred letters were written. The project continued into an ongoing, temporary public art work now titled Letters to Harlem. In July 2014 as part of a residency with the No Longer Empty exhibit "If You Build It" on 155th street I created a new iteration of the work Letters to Sugar Hill. Letters written by visitors were scanned and exhibited at the conclusion of the residency. Most recently in 2021 the letter writing stations were installed along 125th street. A book of the project is in the works and is soon to be completed at the end of 2026.
